Ventricular Tachycardia ablation

Ventricular Tachycardia is an arrhythmia that arises from the bottom Chambers of the heart, the ventricles. One of the most dreaded arrhythmias of the heart.

Generally categorized as VT with normal heart or VT with structural heart disease ( Scar VT).

Both of them are distinct and are managed differently.

Ventricular Tachycardia with normal heart (idiopathic VT) usually arises from different foci but typically the outflow tracts. These arrhythmias are amenable to Ventricular Tachycardia ablation (curative treatment) with success rates of 80-95%.

VT with structural heart disease(scar VT) is because of reentry from scar in the heart. Commonest cause is scar after myocardial infarction or heart attack. It may arise due to other causes as well. Here Defibrillator implantation is a life saving therapy which protects from future fatal events. Some people with Defibrillators receive shocks from the device. Such patients benefit from ablation usually done with special equipment called 3D mapping (CARTO).

Patients with refractory ventricular arrhythmias have poor prognosis and have to be managed aggressively with multiple modalities like drugs, Ablation, sympathectomy.
